Travel this coastline and experience the natural beauty as did the Hapsburgs, the Romans, and many before them.  The many contrasts of food, drink, language, and history gives us a glimpse into the centuries before and the not too recent past.  The borders have changed five times in the past century, and somehow the population has managed to adapt and thrive.

Day 1

Arrive in Venice.  Transportation to hotel and Welcome Dinner!

Day 2

Transportation to Trieste.  Tour of Miramare Castle.  Traditional seafood lunch with an introduction to the wines of the region.  Early evening walking tour of Trieste followed by dinner.  Overnight in Trieste.

Day 3

Visit to Piran, Slovenia.  This town is a gen of Venetian Gothic architecture and one of the only towns of Slovenia with access to the sea.  Enjoy a traditional lunch and tasting of Slovenian wines.  Transportation to Rovinj, Croatia and check into hotel.

Day 4

Guided tour of Rovinj.  Rovinj is perhaps the most picturesque village in all of Istria.  It still has an active fishing port and is surrounded by an archipelago of 13 islands.  Lunch and tasting of Croatian wines.  Free time in the afternoon.

Day 5

Guided tour of Pula.  Pula was a very important town to the Romans as evidenced by the Roman Coliseum that still stands overlooking the sea.  It is the most important town of Istria and has an active historical center.  Free time for shopping and return to Rovinj.

Day 6

Visits to the seaside villages of Porec and Novigrad.  Afternoon wine and food experience and return to Venice hotel.  Grand Finale Dinner!

Day 7

Departure from Venice.

Istria is a land of contrasts.  Highly valued for its position, it has been overrun by many throughout the centuries.  Yet it thrives and retains the simple charm that makes this a perfect vacation destination.
